What is Family Dog Mediation?

Developed by applied ethologist Kim Brophey and acclaimed by leading canine experts as “the single most important development in the dog behavior industry,” Family Dog Mediation (FDM) utilizes the L.E.G.S. Model, which offers a holistic approach to understanding canine behavior. L.E.G.S. stands for Learning, Environment, Genetics, and Self—four fundamental factors that influence how dogs act and interact. This model provides a comprehensive framework for analyzing and addressing all aspects of animal behavior.

Learning

an animal’s experiences and education in life

Environment

the external environment of an animal’s world

LEGS Logo

Genetics

the DNA that designed the animal inside and out

Self

Kidlat
Beagle, Expert Trick Dog

Kidlat, an energetic beagle with a heart of gold, is the reason Cheryl delved into dog behavior and training. Despite a rocky start and a traumatic vet experience, he's a loving companion who excels at learning new tricks. Though cautious of being handled, Kidlat's nose for adventure keeps him exploring. He’s currently working on overcoming his fears and learning to walk calmly on a leash. Kidlat earned his Expert Trick Dog Title from Do More With Your Dog, recognized by the American and Canadian Kennel Clubs.

Botchok
Aspin, Novice Trick Dog

Botchok, a charming Aspin, won Cheryl and her partner’s hearts as a foster fail and found his forever home with them. Despite his struggles with anxiety, Botchok is a quick learner and a natural comedian, always bringing joy to their lives. Cheryl is helping him navigate a world filled with triggers like strangers, dogs, and loud noises, as they journey together toward growth and resilience. Botchok earned his Novice Trick Dog Title from Do More With Your Dog, recognized by the American and Canadian Kennel Clubs.
